Parrot Withdraws From Selling its RNB6 CarPlay Aftermarket System

Parrot-RNB6

In a very odd turn of events, Parrot has announced via its blog that it no longer has plans to release its RNB6 system as an aftermarket upgrade. Instead, Parrot will be selling the CarPlay and Android Auto compatible RNB6 system to manufacturers.

“RNB6 project was showcased at CES Las Vegas in January 2015 (watch video below). This infotainment system was selected by several automakers who envision to integrate it in their next-generation car models next year and beyond. As of today there is no plan to sell RNB6 in Aftermarket channels as RNB6 embedded technologies require deep integration with car series and manufacturers.”

This will come as frustrating news for anyone waiting for the release of Parrot’s first CarPlay enabled system. With the market hotting up with second generation systems released from Pioneer, and CarPlay systems from Alpine and Kenwood, it was Parrot who was in line to release the next CarPlay aftermarket system.

Now, if we look at upcoming aftermarket CarPlay systems, we have an empty road ahead. Who will release the next CarPlay system? I am sure with iOS 9 releasing in the next 1-2 months, we will hear more noise about Apple’s Wireless CarPlay, and hopefully some new Wireless CarPlay systems releasing in time for the holiday buying period.
